Job Description

Our client is a well respected independent school and they need a part time (or potentially full time) Business Manager with a broad range of skills and experience,  to look after all aspects of administration including Finance, IT, Marketing, Catering and facilities management. The successful candidate will be a member of the Senior Management Team and Secretary to the Board working closely with them to develop innovative long term plans for the School. 

Key Responsibilities of the role will include:

Provision of well structured and cost effective support functions for the school.

Management of all aspects of Finance including accounting, reporting, planning and compliance  

Development of marketing strategies to develop the non- education revenue streams 

Management of all aspects of Health and Safety and management of HR requirements.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate, perhaps with a Finance background, and will have operated successfully at a senior level in a well run commercial organisation. You will be capable of developing strong professional relationships with each functional head,  and ensure the highest professional and commercial standards prevail throughout all areas of the school. This role may suit a commercially astute Senior Manager,  perhaps keen to find a suitable engaging part time challenge.   





Reports to the Headmaster





Degree Level Education

Experience/Qualification in Finance

Work Experience

Has worked as a Manager in a Facilities/Finance/Professional Services environment


Health and Safety/HR

Has experience of delivery and knowledge of legislation

H+S /HR training /qualification


Can demonstrate experience of managing a multi function operation. Leads by example.

PRINCE or equivalent qualification

Client Relationships

The ability to build relationships with both internal and external clients including neighbour liaison

Embraces school life including school functions whether school or parent managed.

Team Player

Works in a collegiate way with the ability to influence outcomes in an appropriate way.



Is self motivated identifying business needs and providing plans to meet them. Develops motivational working practices.


Training and Development

Has experience of and is trained as a trainer


Performance Management

Has experience of Managing Personal Performance

Builds an effective cross functional team



Is IT Literate including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google.

Can manipulate data

Legal Requirements

DBS Checked, Clean Licence


Recognition of Quality

Can evidence delivery of and understands required standards. Is not accepting of second best.



Is able to provide a flexible service meeting out of hours needs from time to time as required.
